A college entrance exam which consists of multiple choice tests that cover four areas:  English, Math, Science, & Reading.  The test also has a writing section that is optional.  (*Note:  Cheraw High School does not host the test on every date it is offered!)

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test

A career exploration/skills test designed to measure student aptitude, or capacity for learning, in 8 areas:

- General Science
- Word Knowledge
- Mathematics Knowledge
- Auto & Shop Information

- Arithmetic Reasoning
- Paragraph Comprehension
- Electronics Information
- Mechanical Comprehension

 

Many high school students (whether they are military bound, college bound, or workforce bound) complete this test to help identify weak/strong areas of aptitude.

ACT WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system that helps employers select, hire, train, develop, and retain a high-performance workforce. This series of tests measures foundational and soft skills and offers specialized assessments to target institutional needs.

As part of ACT's Work Readiness System, successful completion of ACT WorkKeys assessments in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information can lead to earning ACT's National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), a portable credential earned by more than 1 million people across the United States.  If you received at least a level score of 3 for each test, you may qualify for a National Career Readiness Certificate.  You may access a certificate and share testing information with potential employers at MyWorkKeys Home

  • The retest policy is student initiated, and the student must complete the “Request to Retest” form within two days of receiving the assessment back from the teacher.
  • The teacher and student will coordinate a time for the retest.
  • The student answers questions in a reflection section of the request. For example, the student must describe the reasons for a poor score and what can be done differently to improve the previous score.
  • The request also requires the student and parent (grades 6-8) to sign the form as well as the teacher’s approval.
  • The teacher can provide 2 opportunities to retest during a nine-week period.
  • Finally, the teacher can determine the most appropriate way to ensure that the concept was learned. It can be an alternate test, a reflection of the missed questions, a lesson form Apex, or an explanation of the new learning, etc.
